Many anglers (ourselves included) are chomping at the bit to get out for some Lake of the Woods ice fishing. We look forward to it every year like kids waiting for Christmas morning, but when does Lake of the Woods freeze over?
Jason Houser of Bone Wild TV (left) & 11 year old Grady Fry (right) show off their late ice catches. This was Grady’s first trip to LOTW staying with us here at River Bend with his family. Grady said that the orange/gold/white glow forage minnow with a full minnow on the bottom did the trick. Jason, while filming and episode for Bone Wild TV, enjoyed landing a trophy that will surely make the show!
Lake of the woods is home to a plethora of fishing opportunities, making it a true bucket list destination for Northern MN ice fishing trips. Fish found in Minnesota lakes like Lake of the Woods include walleye, eelpout, and various panfish, but we are here to focus on northern pike.
