Lake of The Woods Fishing Report: River Bend Resort

September 2, 2021

River Bend Resort: Baudette, MN. Anglers on Lake of The Woods, MN have experienced yet another great week of fishing since our last report. Finding schools of fish scattered throughout her waters is typical this time of year. Late summer heading into fall temperatures really turns on the bite. This means great fishing can be found just about any place you would target.

Keep in mind that no matter the time of year or where you are finding them on your electronics it’s all about what they are finding to eat – forage. You will certainly see many schools of fish still holding strong in 25 – 34 feet of water over the mud flats of the basin. Right now, walleye are honing in on tullibees in this area. The list of what they eat, of course, is much more than just one species. Shiners, blood worms, perch minnows and crayfish are also on the menu depending upon the location of the schools.

The jig bite is reportedly turning back on and will grow stronger as we head into September and on into October. For right now the spinner rig and crankbaits are topping out and still holding strong for a great catch day on the water. For the spinner rigs, use a night crawler and blades of hammered gold, silver, yellow/white, or orange/red. Drifting your spinner rig along the bottom of the mud flats or using a heavier weight and kicking it up to a troll has been the ticket. For the crankbait, use perch, shad or anything blue, blue/silver or blue/grey. Unless you are in shallow. Then switch up to orange and brown.

If you would like to target the Rainy River, walleye are holding in the deeper holes. River Bend Resort sits on the deepest hole along the entire river. Not a bad place to start. Plan on a mixed bag while fishing the river. Rainy holds many species including sauger, walleye, smallmouth bass, northern pike, perch, crappie and of course sturgeon. If you like to target the predator fish, look to structure like docks, weed edges, rocks and sunken wood.

Don’t be afraid to shake it away from the crowd. Our call agents are waiting for your call and will assist you with booking your next trip to Lake of The Woods with River Bend Resort. If you are bringing your own boat, you can book your cabin online through our website and give us a call to reserve a dock space. Also, it’s not too early to be thinking about getting out for some hard water fun and great fishing action. River Bend Resort has many options and packages to choose from.

Until next week … Keep a Tight Line! Bugs & Fishes ≤º))~{
