Lake of The Woods Fishing Report

I have always thought of Lake of The Woods as a vast fish hatchery manufactured by Mother Nature herself. Stands to reason once you look over the fishery and her natural surroundings. Once you toss in the fact that her southern basin was home to commercial walleye fishing during the turn of the century, it’s easy to understand why so many anglers set their sights on her as a go-to destination for walleye fishing.

Even though she consistently provides a wonderful bounty, the patterns changes with many variables at play on any given day. Over the past week we have seen a pattern consistent with midsummer fishing on Lake of The Woods. Live bait spinner rigs drifted across bottom and trolling crankbaits has been the hot ticket.

The larger fish are being pulled from 28-32’ of water over mud. Spinners rigged with crawlers sporting hammered gold or red & white blades have been the most effective. If the mud slows down, move to just outside deep rocky structure using the same rig.

Anglers pulling crankbaits have been reporting success in deeper water the past week. Over the same mud flats in fact. Getting the crankbaits deep is the ticket to a nice cooler of fish as well as targeting trophy walleye. The main color has been blue and clear (shad). Trust your electronics to set your depths.

Always remember, don’t be afraid to shake it away from the crowd. Our call agents are waiting for your call and will assist you with booking your next trip to Lake of The Woods with River Bend Resort. If you are bringing your own boat, you can book your cabin online through our website and give us a call to reserve a dock space.

Until next week … Keep a Tight Line! Bugs & Fishes ≤º))~{
