Team Theora from Marquette, Captained by
Mark Hirvonnen, won $455 with the biggest Atlantic Salmon, while
Rogers City based Team Dock Knockers placed again this year with
$585 for total weight and third biggest fish in the 5th
annual DeTour “X” Atlantic Derby.
We had 28 boats participated in the 2010
DeTour "X" Atlantic Salmon Derby, it was a super day for fishing.
Mostly Eastern UP Teams showed up along with boats from Soo Ontario,
East Lansing, Wolverine, Cheboygan, Rogers City, and Marquette.
Nine boats delivered 13 Atlantic Salmon in coolers to the
final weigh-in ceremony. The derby participants helped
raise about $550 toward the support of the DeTour Fish Station and
Possible Future Salmon Pen.
Only Atlantic Salmon were counted for
contest, 13 fish were weighed in, several boats had nice coolers of
multiple species fish. We saw Lake Trout, Steelhead, Chinook,
along with the elusive Atlantics.
The derby results were as follows:
First Place Fish Payout $455: 8.83lbs Team
Theora, Marquette
Second Place Fish Payout $260: 8.205lbs,
Team Sawmill, Rudyard
Third Place Fish Payout $130: 8.08
lbs, Team Dock Knockers, Rogers City
Total Cooler Weight Payout $455: 3 fish
totaling 14lbs Dock Knockers from Rogers City.
Honorable mention for the total weight
prize was Rudyard’s Team Sawmill with 2 fish at 11.465lbs.
Team Dock Knockers
defended a previous 2rd place (2009) podium showing with
captain Jayme Warwick and crew pocketing total prize winnings of
$785 using their excellent fishing skills. They boated the heaviest
cooler of the derby, along with a Third place fish and an individual
“All Species” BFOD prize. Dock Knockers, second
time derby participants from Rogers City, said that they had a great
time and planned to be back next year. Congratulations to all.
Thanks to all the participants, door
prize donors (Death Wish Lures, Marinelock, Purple Door Studios,
DeTour Village Inn, DNR), and the event sponsors, River Bend Resort,
North Country Sports and Gifts. Also thanks to the
volunteers that helped to run this event. We hope to see all
the “X” Derby Salmon fishermen next year.
